In our skin we naturally have a compound called hyaluronic acid (HA), which acts as a plumping and hydrating agent. Dermal fillers are a synthetic version of the same hyaluronic acid that is found in the body. Dr Pippa believes that aesthetic treatments should be used to enhance the natural beauty in a beautifully subtle way.

As we age, we start to lose volume as our face and muscle mass reduce and our bony structures resorb. This loss of volume can lead to a sunken and sagging appearance, as well as fine lines and deep wrinkles. HA dermal fillers are a brilliant way to restore volume to the areas where it has been lost, and to hydrate the skin. This volume restoration and hydration helps to reduce or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and other signs of ageing.
The effects of dermal fillers are seen immediately, however there is often swelling and redness that accompanies this for the first few days. In some people, swelling can even last for 1 - 2 weeks. When the filler is first placed you can often feel it underneath the surface, so you may feel some small lumps or bumps in the short term after treatment. However, over the 2 - 4 weeks post-treatment, the filler will start to settle under the surface and these feelings will dissapear.
Depending on the thickness of the filler used and the brand of filler, dermal filler treatments can last anywhere between 3 months and 2 + years. Not all fillers are created equally, and cheaper products will often lead to poor aesthetic outcomes or poor longevity of treatments. Dr Pippa always uses fillers that have strong clinical evidence behind their safety and efficacy, and mostly uses the Juvéderm (Allergan/Abbvie), Belotero (Merz) and Teosyal (Teoxane) ranges.
Fillers sometimes have a bad reputation for producing unrealistic and unnatural results. However, in the right hands, dermal filler can be used to create the most subtle and natural results, where no one will be able to tell you have had treatment.
Dermal fillers can be used for a wide range of treatments, including:
Whilst there may be a specific area or certain lines that bother you most, often injecting straight into those lines is not the best and most natural solution to the problem. A combination of treatment in key areas of the face will help to reduce the signs of ageing in the most subtle and natural-looking way.
